For the 50th independent German Jewellery symposium we want to reflect on how our field has changed in the course of half a century with particular focus on the people that have facilitated the development of what is now a burgeoning international community. While great makers are essential, the field wouldn’t be the same big happy family (;-) without those who have chosen to help connect it. And of course one of the greatest examples of the facilitation of connection is this symposium itself, organized independently by volunteers for 50 years! Lets celebrate that amazing feat and listen to others that are not only interested in making and looking at great art, but who are also facilitating the positive growth of our strange little niche.

Das Schmucksymposium heißt Halden-  dann Zimmer-, und ab jetzt Haxthäuserhof. Und es wird 50 Jahre alt! Wie hat sich unser Feld verändert in diesem halben Jahrhundert? Das "zeitgenössischer Schmuck" sich mittlerweile zu einer blühenden internationalen Gemeinschaft entwickelt hat, dafür sind bedeutende Macher unentbehrlich. Aber unser Feld wäre nicht die gleiche Größe, glückliche Familie ohne das Engagement und das Visionäre derer, die die Vermittler sind, jene die Verbindungen schaffen. Das Symposium selber, jedes Jahr auf das neue, unabhängig von Freiwilligen organisiert, ist

ein wunderbares Beispiel dafür. Wir feiern diese Meisterleistung, und unterhalten uns mit denjenigen, die nicht nur daran interessiert sind, gute Kunst zu machen, sondern mit ihrer Haltung und ihrem Arbeiten das Wachsen und das sich Vernetzen unserer eigenartigen Nische erst möglich und wertvoll machen.
